Where Asbestos if Located

Prior to new regulations introduced in 1999, asbestos was commonly used in a number of construction and interior design materials, including:

  • Ceiling or floor cavities
  • Lagging
  • Sprayed coatings on ceilings, walls and beams/columns
  • Insulating boards
  • Floor tiles, textiles and composites
  • Textured coatings
  • Cement products
  • Roofing felt
  • Rope seals and gaskets

The Importance of Asbestos Removal

When materials that contain asbestos are disturbed or damaged, fibres are released into the air. When these fibres are inhaled they can cause serious diseases such as mesothelioma, asbestosis, pleural thickening and asbestos-related lung cancer.

These diseases may not affect you immediately; and can often take a long time to develop, but once diagnosed, it is often too late to do anything. This is why it is vital that asbestos is removed by licenced professionals as soon as it is identified.
